my dear friend Sarah is coming to visit from London for two weeks! She'll be splitting her time between me and her other bestest friend from Aberystwyth, Jenn (who I gather lives in SF!)

OMG this is going to be fun!!

Recommends for nature walks, cool shopping venues or farmers markets, cultural events that are "must-do's" and upcoming social events and invitations to dinner between the 14th and the 30th, hereby being solicited!

She's a foodie, too, so I know I'm taking her to Oliveto's and Luna Ristorante and probably to Greens and Millenium (Unless Jenn takes her out to one of those last two instead... LOL < /feeling competitive>)

Advice? Suggestions? Bueller? Bueller?

most Farmers markets stop or change their hours by the end of October.

From when to when is she going to be here?
Friday, November 7th, 2008 08:35 pm (UTC)
she flies in on the 14th and will be leaving on the 28th, per her original travel plans.

I hope I can introduce her to some of my beloved people out here.

Take her to see the Golden Gate.
Show her where you got married.
Take her to your favorite local beach.
Take her to see your mom.
Go to that ridiculous restaurant that charges $30 a plate that you might have always been curious about but never "had an excuse" to go celebrate at.
Take her for a walk somewhere outdoors that feels sacred to you.

http://www.mustseesanfrancisco.com/attractions.htm has some cool stuff.

The Capitol
Winchester house
Tahoe

Dickens starts on the 28th otherwise I would suggest that.

Take her to visit your mom, and take her to where you were wed.

Ms. BP: brilliant.

Isn't your b-day party during that time, or have you rescheduled? That seems like a wonderful social engagement.

yep, my birthday is Nov. 20. What a nice gift, to have one of my oldest, wackiest English friends out for part of my birthday month!

No, I'll figure something out. (dunno what yet.)

Prima, Va de Vi, Uncle Yu's, Postino, Bay Wolf, Pizza Antica, Casa Orinda (only for the fried chicken), Presidio Social Club, cracked crab from Diablo Foods. If you want to drive, Al the Wop's in Locke is worth it if you dig on straight up steak.

You could stroll around downtown Walnut Creek and giggle quietly at all the yuppies.

Mt. Diablo on a clear day is totally worth the drive up. You can see soooooooooo far!

nom nom nom... thanks!

and the Mount Diablo is a very good idea. I haven't done that before.

Ferry Plaza in SF has a bunch of upscale foodie stores and on the weekend I think they have a farmer's market as well.
Nov 21st is Friday Night Waltz in Palo Alto, Nov 22 is Saturday Night Waltz in Oakland. Nov 28th-30th is Dickens Faire.

The Stinking Rose restaurant, if she likes garlic! Make reservations and ask for one of the canopy tables, if your party is 4 or smaller.
Friday, November 7th, 2008 09:21 pm (UTC)
ooo, I've never been there!! thanks for the suggest!

Cho Shiku Bai has a tasting room in Berkeley, if you folks like sake.

Second on Mt.Diablo for distance viewing. Lindsay Museum has rescue wildlife for learning about (ping Elissali for info there).

Zvents.com might be worth a look.

Unique museums, yes. Bay Area has beautiful public parks, and strange museums.

Ms. S17: What is the Museum of clockwork that Barnabus enjoys?
Friday, November 7th, 2008 09:07 pm (UTC)
Meaning 'clockwork' toys, and windups and such...Musee Mechanique?
Saturday, November 8th, 2008 02:11 am (UTC)
Yes. http://www.museemechanique.org/ Turn speakers / computer sound OFF before going to the site.

Take her shopping at Berkeley Bowl. Well, the produce section anyway.

I'm bad with dates - will there be time for Dickens?
