Google "Livejournal Layoffs"

and then there are links on [livejournal.com profile] magnificentmndi's post of today for some more information.

I am using a tool found Here created by [livejournal.com profile] orona_red to back up.

I may go check out DeadJournal or InsaneJournal for continued vivacity...

I will be damn sad if LJ does "go down" or in the words of [livejournal.com profile] eeyore42 "stagnate, which is the same thing", but I don't intend to lose my words, comments, friends.

So.

Proactive planning.

Y'know, I just started bookmarking and saving my diary pages...because a heck of a lot of my life the last 5 years went here instead of on paper.

And NOW my computer is down?! Argh!
(This argh was brought to you via laptop.)

The original source for this information was Valleywag, which frequently exaggerates things to the Nth degree. In a statement to CNet LJ says the cuts weren't that bad:

I'm unable to read the post you linked to -- it's friend-locked (also there's a formatting problem in your link).

thank you for the debunk. Backing up is always good, but there's been a lot of "TEH SKY IZ FALLIN" on my friendspage today..

(I do sometimes overreact.)

Yes, there are layoffs, and everyon's freaking out about it going down, but frankly I haven't seen any evidence of that directly. Nothing happened when it was sold (and sold, and sold, and sold again like a cheap whore), nothing happened when they went to adds, and so far I haven't heard anything more substantial than speculations because of layoffs.

That having been said... know of any good backup tools for mac? :P

Quite frankly they moved their colo to the midwest, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're laying off SF staff (higher cost of living) to rehire more folks Out Over Yonder at a lower rate.

I can guess by context what "colo" means... and this idea is reassuring. I would rather stay where I am at home and know my way around, rather than migrate.

Their datacenter, basically. Where all the bits and bytes and bobs that make up your written words are housed.

See here.

and you can do what I did... which was google Livejournal backup... (but add "for macintosh", I would expect)

*shrug*

ah! info surfaces. try here, about halfway down, the thread that starts, "must be time to archive my journal again".
