labelleizzy: (take the action)

I picked the take the action icon for a reason...

I'm having trouble writing more than tiny bit of stuff on quora. I guess I'm doing well with that, it feels like being helpful, and it's more feedback and validation for me as an author/internet auntie.

I keep reading, fine. Right now I'm studying R. Cooper's novels (Kindle lets me highlight! and write notes in my copy!

But my stories are languishing. It's more that I want to WANT to be writing, or that I feel like I need a task mistress (shush you now, I don't think I swing that way, but don't rule it out.)

Opinions? Suggestions? I have ideas, I know what I want to do, I just haven't been making myself do it unless challenged. Ie, Tumblr's post saying "if you're reading this, go write 3 sentences on your WIP!"

Like, that's engaging, and low stakes. Plus I have at least 3 WIP's.

Raaaar!

This is a hard one. I get work happening on my works-in-progress -- not stories, at least not yet, but art practice and side programming and stuff. But I do it by regimenting my whole life and putting everything in the organizer program. And you've already heard that recommendation many times, so it's unlikely to help you just to mention it :-)

Mostly there are never enough hours. Organization *does* help me -- the main benefit is being able to look across a longer time scale and say, "yes, I've been doing a little of this regularly for a long time." And yeah, it always feels like too little.

I've been having trouble with writing as well.
One of the best things I've done is just sit with loose sheets of notebook paper and make myself start writing anything that comes to mind for a set amount of time. It helps prime the pump -- and for me writing longhand gets my creativity flowing more than typing on a computer.

Also: I grinned when I saw this icon. You let me use it on LiveJournal and I still have it in my archive.
