Sigh. I joined LJ to keep in touch with SCA friends in places I used to live--to hear about progress friends I have known in real life have been making on their projects, to get the news from Kingdoms I have lived in, to read summaries of the SCA events I didn't get to. For a long time I had only people I had actually met, or people who were good friends with people I had actually met on my LJ friends list. However, many of those people rarely, if ever post any more, and I met you through a friendzie mentioned on one of their journals.

I just checked both of those friendzie's and only one person so far has explicitly mentioned the SCA, and then only in a "will join soon" context. Where do I go to find SCA people who still post?

I think I found some--I asked on the long dormant SCA LJ communities I am a member of, and a few people replied.

Any particular reason not to play these days? From your posts it sounds like you are the sort of person who would enjoy it...

Spouse enjoys camping in moderation, but dressing up not at all. SCA can be a big time commitment and we just have a lot of other social things and projects ongoing that are fun right now, more so than the effort of trying to break into new social circles.

Not saying SCA isn't fun, it is, and there's stuff to learn, but especially with Burning man this summer, we haven't the time.

Indeed, the SCA can take up huge amounts of time, since it is really an excuse for way, way too many hobbies.

As to dressing up--there are options for clothing styles that are just comfortable things to wear and don't feel like playing dress up. That is one of the advantages of 1000 years of history to play with--there is a style to suit all tastes, somewhere, somewhen...
