In about an hour, my county is going on lockdown shelter in place due to covid-19.

I want to write about my Feelings and this experience, because it's so fucking SURREAL.

Gov. Bevin is heading that direction. Kentucky had a couple weeks of watching what happened everywhere else and he’s trying hard to use that lead to flatten the curve here. I’m impressed that he’s doing the right things for the people at what is almost certainly the expense of a second term as Governor.

People should remember a governor kindly when he or she tries their hardest to keep people alive.

One would hope.

Kentuckians tend toward libertarian, and have a strong sense of “You Can’t Tell Me What To Do.” There’s also a deep level of religious belief, unfortunately often at the expense of science. Combined with losing jobs and being hungry? I haven’t delved into any local forums recently but I suspect the reactions are very much against him.

Since I lived most of my life on the west coast, it’s not a social mindset I grok but I have come to respect its existence.
